Are you an artist who wants to post their work online but have no idea where to start?
When Janine and I started The Archive three years ago, we did it with the intent to provide a cost-effective, large space for artists to work. Before that, I was a web developer for ten years. One thing I’ve realized when talking with artists is that they don’t have the time or energy to learn how to manage their own online portfolio. The truth is, it’s very easy. So I thought I’d put together some classes to help.
I’m planning to offer two classes: a basic and an advanced. The breakdown is as follows:
Basic – 4 hours over one afternoon ($125) | Sunday July 8th :
– Setting up WordPress on my preexisting server
– How to find and install one of the free themes offered by WordPress
– How to pick and choose the proper plugins
– How to install a paid, premium theme (provided)
– How to build your own portfolio as well as proper contact/about pages
– How to ensure your site is secure and protected from hackers and spam bots
At the end of this course you will have built a sample site. You can take the knowledge with you to build your own site on your own time.
Advanced – 8 hours over 2 afternoons ($225) | Saturday July 14, Sunday July 15:
– How to purchase a web host and domain name ( this is required when you are ready to host your own site)
– How to set up WordPress on your very own server
– How to purchase and install premium themes
– How to pick and choose the proper plugins for your needs
– How to build your own portfolio as well as proper contact/about pages
– How to ensure your site is secure and protected from hackers and spam bots
At the end of this course, you will have built the beginnings of your very own site on your very own server that you can use going forward.
$300 if you enroll for both classes.
The dates above are tentative based on interest. When responding, please indicate whether you are interested in the Basic, Advanced, or both. Classes will be held at The Archive in Strathcona, Vancouver BC. A laptop running Windows 7 or higher, OR Mac OXS or higher as well as high res images of your work, are required for both the Basic and Advanced classes.
For the advanced class, I will be walking you through the purchase of your own host and domain name. If you choose to purchase them at that time, you will be required to cover those costs. If you already have a host / domain name, ensure you have all your login credentials when you arrive.
If you are interested in enrolling, or have any questions, email us at info@thearchiveart.com and we will get back to you as soon as we can.
